Minimus, someone has already pointed out in this thread that a person could feel ok today - then tomorrow start shooting.
This latest shooting was headline news in Australia this morning, like every other mass shooting in the U. S. Personally I don't know why we have so much concern for what happens in the U.S. concerning gun laws. If you guys don't give a f%+k, why should the rest of us?

The idea that so called 'good guys with guns' will save the day is a dangerous idea to risk your life with.
During the shooting in Las Vegas there were people in the crowd licenced and carrying but didn't pull their guns out for fear of being mistaken for the shooter. This is just one example. Anyone that has done any kind of self defence classes involving the use of guns will tell you what a chaotic, deadly situation it is.
It is so obvious to neutral outsiders looking at the U. S. gun violence that the problem isn't mental illness, it is the laughable ease with which almost anyone can get their hands on a 'tool', thats only function is to kill efficiently.

February 2018 Watchtower - Addressing abuse Victims
by Listener inthere's a preview note on one of the articles in this newly released watchtower.
the note can be found on an article titled "part 1 of 4 love and justice in ancient israel".the note states -.
this article is the first in a series of four that will discuss why we can be sure that jehovah cares about us.

There is something about using the ancient Israelite culture as a parallel to modern society that feels so wrong.
Instead of directly addressing the massive problem of the mishandling of child abuse, we are taken on a speculative journey into what life might have been like 3000 yrs ago in the middle east, a culture that would seem alien to us in 2018.

Hey jesus! So tell us all about heaven!
by nowwhat? ini always wondered, how come the apostles never asked jesus what heaven is like compare to earth.
and wouldn't they be bugging jesus to tell them all kind of stories of such?.

Great question nowwhat.
Steve, your comment raises an important issue, well, to me anyway. :)
Jesus was supposed to be the most powerful, important creature to ever walk the earth, the son of God. Why wouldn't EVERY word that came put of his mouth be recorded to help all of humanity? This was our one big chance in history to get the answers to everything we have always wondered about.
They could have asked medical, scientific, philosophical questions- anything at all.
Jesus could have even given some simple advice like: 'hey guys, you might want to start boiling water before you drink it'. That single bit of advice would have saved more lives than the lives lost from every war in history- water-borne disease is still the number one killer according to WHO.
There are so many questions Jesus could have answered but it seems no one thought to ask. That seems kind of weird.

1. I just explained to that householder how we arrive at 1914, using only the bible.
2. I've decided to start printing my own bible literature.
3. I wish the conventions still lasted 7 days.

Congratulations to the W. T.
by joey jojo ini think congratulations are long overdue to the wt for the excellent job they do of keeping members dumbed-down and feeling safe inside the cocoon of a hive mind.
they tell us that the best education program in the world is reading the wt publications but here is a conversation i had with my uber elder buddy yesterday that may prove otherwise.
we were talking about the october broadcast and the question of whether gods name should be included or not, when i made an offhand comment about the compiling of the new testament and the canonisation of its books.

Just wanted to add that I started this topic and just wrote off the cuff at work, so I didn't have time to add some links.
In defence of my buddy, I am certainly no biblical scholar either and the irony is that I have learned more about the bible after I stopped attending meetings.
As usual, some great threads about this topic right here on these forums.

I think congratulations are long overdue to the Wt for the excellent job they do of keeping members dumbed-down and feeling safe inside the cocoon of a hive mind.

We were talking about the October broadcast and the question of whether Gods name should be included or not, when I made an offhand comment about the compiling of the new testament and the canonisation of its books. My elder friend asked me what I was talking about because 'Jehovah' compiled the bible including, of course, the NT.
He was completely unaware of the events that took place over the course of hundreds of years after the NT books were written, primarily by what we would call 'the apostate Christian church', aka Catholics, that led to the eventual formation of the bible as we generally know it today. Even now there are different versions of the bible that are accepted by various branches of religion and the book of revelation wasn't generally agreed upon as being canon before the 5th century ad.
I should mention that my friend is over 50 years old, he is an elder, ex-pioneer, ex-bethelite and the son of a missionary couple. Yet, even though he has had an amazing wt education, he didn't know how the bible came to be.
Once again, well done wt.

When I was about 11 a hot lady of about 20 came to the door wearing only her underpants and a t-shirt- that was pretty cool.
I remember being screamed at and told to 'piss off' by an irate householder when I was about 14.
My Dad got abused by a guy who told him he shouldn't have his kids out in the blazing heat. QLD, Australia 34 degrees , 90% humidity. It was actually a fair point.

Overwhelmed
by Freedom rocks indoes anyone else feel overwhelmed on what to believe?.
i've been doing lots of research on beliefs, evolution, creationism but i feel no further forward about what i truly believe.
for example i looked at the fossil record and tiktaalic and thought great it proves a lot but then i've seen counter arguments on youtube of people basically saying its a load of rubbish and doesn't prove anything.

Hi Freedom Rocks.
I certainly wouldn't pretend to have the answers to your opening post. However, I will say that believing you know everything (like JW's do) is a really childish attitude and I think being able to admit to not understanding everything is proof of wisdom and a sign that you are strong enough to test your own beliefs.
There is a good youtube clip of Ricky Gervais on a talk show being asked about God and the answer he gave is really thought-provoking.
For those that haven't seen it he made the point that if all holy books were destroyed today and all knowledge of them was lost, they would never be reproduced in the same way, with the same characters and stories.
However, if all knowledge of science was lost today, eventually everything we know would be re-discovered and be EXACTLY the same.
Maybe its an idea for perspective in your search.
Cheers.
